The beach of Keri, also called Lake of Keri, took its name from the big lake that used to be there in the old times, and which nowadays is drained.
In the Lake of Keri you may find traditional Taverns and beautiful Bars & Cafes and, Diving Schools. On the coastal street one can send beautiful evenings. There you may also find the Diving schools which organise diving lessons and diving cruises, a sport that many visitors prefer. It also worth to rent your small boat or get taken by a Kaiki, to visit the splendid Marathonisi and the Light blue Caves. At the end of the coastal street there is a small port that shelters fishing boats but also the boats of the visitors.

Marathonissi

Across the coast of Keri , lies the island of Marathonisi (or else called the island of Marathias), that imposingly jewels the gulf of Laganas.
The island has two reefs, called Pontikonisia, that in the old times were linked to the cape of Marathias. The island has roughly one mile perimeter.
The nature there is pure exotic as the island has no inhabitants.
The sandy beach is spotless and the waters crystal blue.

In the long gold sandy beach that unfolds like a tongue in the sea, the turtles Caretta-Caretta make their nests. The Guards of the National Marine Park, stay there on a permanent basis in order to protect the island, the turtles and their eggs. In the steep coast with the pebbles, we admire the two small marine caves which we can visit either swimming or with the small Kaiki.
You may visit the Island only during the daylight by renting a small boat from the beach of Keri, or with the Kaiki that go there every day. The island is virgin, and no shops are found there, therefore take care to carry with you water and other supplies if you intend to stay there for the day.

The area of Kalamaki was developed after the big tourist growth of Lagana.
Here the life is also cosmopolitan but quieter. The hotels are smaller and beaches quieter.
In general Kalamaki is considered a very good choice for stay as it has a little from the city, but also because there one can find everything. The beach of Kalamaki is the continuity of the beach of Lagana. The area of Laganas is the most cosmopolitan and tourist developed area of Zakynthos.It is located in the Gulf of Laganas in the south flat area of the island.

For their protection, the Gulf of Laganas and then areas that lie in this, have been characterized and belong to the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, and since then, reconstruction decreased and the mechanically-driven marine ships were prohibited. On this each you may also find small ships and kaikia that will take you to a small tour in the Gulf , and thus you may also see the turtles more closely.

At 20 km on the north part of the city of Zante, a very small beach, one of the most picturesque with pebbles and a characteristic smell of brimstone due to the brimstone source located in a close cave, is the Xigia beach. Because of the content of brimstone in the water, white pieces reminding of grease are thrown in the sea. The beach was named after that (Xigia in Greek means fat). The region's inhabitants believe that swimming in these waters is therapeutic for cases of arthritis, rheumatism.

Dafni

Dafni beach is a really beautiful, long and wide sandy beach, with a splendid view in the gulf of Laganas. Just across the beach, stands the small islet Pelouzo.
This is another place where the turtles Caretta – Careta lay the eggs. The beach of Dafni belongs also in the National Marine Park therefore it is protected. Here there are water sports. The small Taverns that operate here, are open only duri ng daytime so that the turtles are not disturbed. The access to the beach of Dafni becomes from the central street of Vassilikos and is considered quite difficult. You have to drive 3 kilometres earth-road in order to access the beach. Despite this difficulty, the visitors are very attracted to this beach as its beauty is unique.
